Dutch Socialist Party – Statement on the ongoing violence in the kurdish towns of Turkey

The Hague, December 30th, 2015

Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Socialist Party in the Dutch States General and the European Parliament, we would like to express our deep concern regarding the recent violence in the Kurdish region of Turkey.
Please accept our condolences with the casualties that you have suffered.
The use of force by the Turkish government is both disproportional and unacceptable. We have asked the Dutch Government to condemn the violence.
We condemn the fact that the peace negotiation process was suspendend by the president of the Republic of Turkey on april 2015.
We call for an immediate cessation of all use of violence by all parties involved. Parties should return to the negotiation process in order to prevent a further bloodshed. Both bilateral and multilateral channels must be used to ensure that parties will engage again in a credible peace process.
As a member state of the European Union we expect that the European Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs will address the Turkish Government and urge it to stop the violence immediatly.
It cannot turn a blind eye to the developments in the region.
Please be assured of our support and sympathy.
Sincerely yours,

Harry van Bommel MP, spokesperson Foreign Affairs
Dennis de Jong, MEP, delegation leader
